History & Legend

Known as 'Aadi Ranga', the first of the Pancharanga Kshetrams along the Kaveri river, with a history predating the 9th century and later expansion under Hoysala and Vijayanagara patronage; the island town later became Tipu Sultan's capital.

Divine Significance

Marks the northernmost/first of the five sacred Ranganatha shrines that trace the Kaveri downstream to the sea.
