History & Legend

Built in 1787 by Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore on the banks of the Falgu river, the temple marks a footprint believed to be Vishnu's, and Gaya is central to Hindu ancestral rites (pind daan).

Divine Significance

Pilgrims perform shraddha (ancestral offerings) here in the belief that it liberates forefathers' souls, making it one of the most important sites for Hindu funerary rites.
