Yadadri Narasimha Swamy Temple
Folktale & Sacred Story
According to the Skanda Purana, the sage Yada, son of Rishi Rishyasringa, performed intense penance in a cave on this hill, blessed by Hanuman. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Narasimha appeared before him not in one but five forms: Jwala Narasimha, Yogananda Narasimha, Gandabherunda Narasimha, Ugra Narasimha, and Lakshmi Narasimha. Yada requested that the Lord remain on the hill in all five forms, and Narasimha agreed, giving the hill its name "Yadagiri" (Yada's hill). All five forms are still enshrined in stone inside the natural cave sanctum, making this the only site in India venerated as the Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.
Most Revered Practice
The temple's most revered practice is darshan of the five self-manifested (swayambhu) Narasimha forms inside the cave sanctum, especially during Narasimha Jayanti and Brahmotsavam. Pilgrims also bathe in the Vishnu Gundam tank before darshan, believed to wash away sins.
Prasadam & Offerings
Pulihora (tamarind rice) and laddu are the prasadam commonly distributed to devotees, along with free annadanam meals to visiting pilgrims; exact daily items should be confirmed with the temple.
Temple Speciality
The sanctum sits inside a natural cave under a massive overhanging rock -- a rare cave-shrine geography for a major Vaishnavite temple. Between 2016 and March 2022 the entire complex was rebuilt in Dravidian style using black granite at a cost of roughly Rs 1,800 crore, with seven gopurams, giving it the nickname "Telangana's Tirumala.
